FOREIGN STUDENTS

Recorded auditions

Candidates outside Puerto Rico that apply for admission to the Instrumental or Voice Performance programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels can submit their auditions via recording (VHS or DVD). After being admitted, students will take the placement and/or corresponding diagnostic exams.

Requirements for foreign students:

Foreign students must also complete those requirements indicated above for their particular field of study and provide the following:

  1. A copy of a high school diploma or its equivalency. This copy must be validated by the country’s Minister of Education or the American Consulate.
  2. An official copy of the candidate’s high school transcripts validated by the country’s Minister of Education or the American Consulate. Transcripts must show a grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 or more on a scale of 4.00. The Music Education concentration requires a GPA of 2.50 for admission, without exception.
  3. College Board and/or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) results sent directly to the Conservatory. The institution will use the scores from the Spanish and English sections to place students in the basic required courses for both languages. International students can request their high school to have the College Board send a copy of the exam. Once the student takes the exam, the high school will then send it to the College Board to be corrected, with the results sent directly to the Conservatory. International students can contact the College Board at the following address:

  1. Foreign students under 21 years of age must bring immunization records to be validated in Puerto Rico, according to Law 25 of the Puerto Rico Health Department.
  2. In those cases where a student’s academic records are not in English or Spanish, the candidate must submit a translation that is certified by the institution providing them. All academic records must be validated by the country’s Minister of Education and the American Consulate. In addition, official information regarding the qualification system used in the academic evaluation, along with evidence of any earned certificates or diplomas.
  3. Foreign students must apply to the United States for an entrance visa. This is required for the entire time the student is registered and studying at the Conservatory. Students must also show that they will be financially supported throughout the entire study period.

Once students are admitted, they will need to have a sponsor who is responsible for any expenses related to the study program. Given that foreign students cannot work to earn money to pay for their education and personal expenses, they must make arrangements to have a sponsor that has the funds available for these expenses. The sponsor has the obligation to economically support the student while studying on American soil. For this reason, signed documents will need to be provided, whereby the sponsor promises to pay for the student’s studies.

The sponsor must provide evidence of income by submitting the following documents:

  1. A completed Financial Certification and Declaration form, accompanied by one of the following:
    1. A letter from the business or institution where the sponsor works, indicating monthly salary
    2. A copy of the sponsor’s income tax return
    3. Proof of income
    4. An official bank statement on officially stamped paper from a banking or financial institution indicating the amount of money in the account. The minimum amount of money that the sponsor must have is $13,672.00.
    5. If students are going to cover their own expenses, they must submit a bank statement that indicates there are sufficient funds in the student’s account to cover the study costs until the degree or program is completed.

These documents must be sent to the Admissions Office. If the Certification and related documents comply with the requirements for the sponsor, emigration form I-20 will be sent to the student.
